Governor Beshear Orders Flags to Half-staff on July 4

FRANKFORT, Ky. – Gov. Steve Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff on Sunday, July 4, 2010 in honor of a Fort Campbell soldier who died while supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

According to the Department of Defense, Spc. Jared C. Plunk, 27, of Stillwater, Okla. died June 25 at Konar, Afghanistan, of wounds sustained when insurgents attacked his unit using rocket propelled grenades and small arms fire. He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 327th Infantry Regiment, 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault), Fort Campbell, Ky.

Funeral services for Spc. Plunk will be held on July 4 at 2 p.m. Central time at Robert Brothers Funeral Home in Hooker, Okla. Burial services will follow at 4 p.m. Central time at Liberal Cemetery in Liberal, Kan. Gov. Beshear has directed that flags at all state office buildings be lowered to half-staff from sunrise to sunset that day.

Gov. Beshear encourages individuals, businesses, organizations and government agencies to join in this tribute.
