Gov. Rounds Asks That All Flags Fly at Half Staff on Wednesday to Honor Former Lt. Gov. William Dougherty

PIERRE, S.D. – Gov. Mike Rounds asks that all flags in the state be flown at half staff on Wednesday, July 7, 2010, from 8:00 a.m. until sunset, in honor of former Lieutenant Governor William J. “Bill” Dougherty of Sioux Falls, who died July 3, 2010.

“Bill Dougherty served South Dakota as lieutenant governor from January 1971 to January 1975 and continued his involvement with the legislative process through his work as a successful lobbyist,” Gov. Rounds said. “He was very respected and true to his word. We extend our condolences to his family.”

Services will be held on Wednesday, July 7, at 10 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at St. Michael Cemetery. Visitation is Tuesday, July 6, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Miller Funeral Home in Sioux Falls. A scripture service will begin at 7 p.m.
